They can become your partners. Contact the local newspaper advertising. neighborhood newspapers are still small in need of stories. My local library has a section grant. Learn which could give a grant for your type of research. I know that the U.S. Forest Service provides resources for researchers studying in the forest through a matching program, so that government agencies can be a resource. Contact other researchers doing similar projects and how they are paid.
